Leaders’ Bios
Olga Tacure, Executive Director
Olga Tacure is the Executive Director of Women Encouraging Empowerment, Inc. (WEE), where she has made significant strides in advancing education equity and community engagement since joining the organization in 2017. Starting as a Parent Lead Organizer, Olga played a key role in developing a District-wide Family Engagement Policy, which was approved by the School Committee in 2021 and is now actively implemented in the community where she lives and works.
Under Olga’s leadership, WEE has seen remarkable growth. The organization has expanded from three part-time employees to nine staff members, including two full-time positions. This expansion has allowed WEE to increase its reach, now serving over 1,500 people annually, compared to just 200 previously, through enhanced programs, services, and resources. Olga’s efforts have been instrumental in securing funding and building partnerships that contribute to the economic sustainability and development of the low-income families and individuals the organization serves.
As an immigrant Latina from Peru, Spanish-speaking and with a background in nursing, Olga brings a profound understanding of the barriers faced by low-income families and individuals. Her personal experiences drive her passion for advocacy and her commitment to creating inclusive programs that foster economic sustainability and community well-being.
Her dedication to supporting other immigrants like herself is at the heart of her work. Olga’s commitment to public education and justice includes co-founding the Revere Education Justice Alliance (REJA) and being one of the first immigrant women to serve on Revere High School’s PTO. She is an alumna of the Parent Leadership Training Institute, the Institute for Nonprofit Practice, and The Boston Foundation’s Women of Color Learning Cohort.
Her contributions extend to the Revere Cares Coalition and the City of Revere’s Master Plan Steering Committee. Passionate about community and systemic change, Olga has championed engagement with business owners, particularly family child care providers, playing a key role in revising local ordinances to better support these providers and drive broader improvements.
Originally from Peru, Olga earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing in Lima and has volunteered at Massachusetts General Hospital and Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Boston. Her immigrant journey, having navigated many challenges herself, gives her a deep empathy for the barriers faced by those she serves. Her roots, personal experiences, and the community she serves are constant sources of inspiration, fueling her passion for working with immigrants like herself. This firsthand understanding of their challenges drives her advocacy on behalf of others and creating inclusive programs that meet the diverse needs of the community.
Driven by a vision of a liberated society with equal access to opportunities, Olga is proud of her accomplishments in increasing civic participation, promoting diversity and inclusion, and driving systemic change. Olga is deeply invested in understanding the unique needs and perspectives of community members, ensuring that programs and initiatives are inclusive and responsive.
Olga’s journey reflects her deep belief in empowerment and the transformative power of collective action.
She is also deeply inspired by the team she has built at WEE and her family, whose support and encouragement play a crucial role in her continued success.
